Privacy Policy of The Animal Behavior Society (ABS)

The Animal Behavior Society (ABS) values the privacy of its members, users of its services, and visitors to its various websites. ABS therefore operates according to the following policies.

Personal Information

Some personal information including addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and other demographic information is collected for membership, journal subscriptions, meeting registrations, grant applications, and other similar activities. ABS takes precautions to protect your individual information from unauthorized use. ABS may make internal use of your contact information to inform you of situations or services that may interest you. The Membership Committee also uses this information to study trends in membership activity over time, and to identify future recruitment areas.

The ABS Membership Directory is a password-protected service restricted for use only by our members. It contains basic contact information and membership data. Member mailing lists are sold on a carefully screened basis, and only when the mailed material is thought to be of significant interest, relevance or benefit to members.

ABS members may change and update their addresses, e-mail addresses, suppress the use of their contact information in the Membership Directory, decline to receive ABS-generated e-mail messages, or request to be excluded from externally sold mailing lists when they join, renew or by sending an e-mail to the Animal Behavior Society.

A “cookie” is a file a Web site places in your computer for future reference. ABS uses cookies to improve some of its services, such as membership renewal online. Information supplied through an ABS cookie is used only by ABS and is not shared with others.
