Abstract Submissions

Be advised that there is a limit on the number of Contributed Talks that can be accepted. ABS bylaws require us to accept talk abstracts in the order received rather than the merits of the abstract or the presenter. You may still submit your most excellent abstract as a contributed poster, but not as a contributed talk, once this limit has been reached. The current limit is set at 200. So be sure to submit well before the deadline.

  • The title of your abstract should not be more then 75 characters (including spaces) and use sentence case; do not use an "all caps" format.
  • The abstract itself should be no longer than 1200 characters (including spaces), which is about 200 words. The title is not included in this word count.
  • Please only use the main institution (or abbreviation where appropriate), do not include Division, Dept, Lab affiliations etc, again this will save space.
  • (Required)
Please provide a title for your presentation. To help the program office please try and restrict your title to 75 characters or less and use lower case. You may flag which word(s) should be in italic by surrounding the word or group of words with * . Example: Cooperation and its consequences in the harvester ant, *Pogonomyrmex occidentalis*.
    (Required)
Your first choice for a session group (used to assist the program officer(s) with scheduling).
    (Required)
Your alternative choice for a session group (used to assist the program officer(s) with scheduling).
By submission of an abstract to ABS, I declare that the research reported herein was conducted in compliance with all laws applicable to my work and with the ABS Code of Ethics and Animal Care Guidelines.

    (Required)
    (Required)
Please enter the last part of your name that you want us to use for looking up your information in the Program Book index; this would be similar to the family name you use when publishing in an international journal. Example: Example: Diana K Hews would be listed as Hews, D in the index. If you have a common family name such as Smith, use two initials if possible. If you have two last names and wish both to be included then you must hyphenate them. Example: Diana Hews Scott would be listed as Hews-Scott, D
    (Required)
    (Required)
    Presenter's Affiliation.
If the default organization is not the one where the work was carried out and you would like to enter a different one just for this project, you may do so here. If you primary organization has now changed and you would like to make that permanent instead of the one above, please contact the ABS Center Office to make the change to the information we have on file.
    (Required)
The current, most reliable phone number where you can be reached in case the Program Officer must contact you. Note: e-mail is the preferred method.
Additional requests for the Program Officer regarding your personal information and your abstract (i.e. Alternative spelling of your name, Alternative Institution if necessary). Please be aware that additional requests place a greater demand on the already overworked program officer(s) during this time so please take that into account when making additional requests.
    (Required)
Indicate the type of your presentation. If you do not select a category your talk will be automatically assigned the category of a POSTER so please make sure to check the appropriate category.

    (Required)
Please enter your author(s) and affiliation information exactly as we would like for it to appear in the program guide. For indexing purposes the presenting author is entered as the first author, followed by the remaining authors. Match their affiliation on the next line and include the e-mail address of the presenter at the end. Note: If all the authors are at the same institution you do not need to add superscript numbers. This information should be about two lines or less (approximatley 200 characters including spaces, punucation and superscript but not the formatting characters. If it does run long it will decrease the space you have for your abstract text and we will cut the abstract to make sure all fits in our alloted space. -- Example: Diana K. Hews 1, Erina Hara, 2 , Maurice Anderson 2 Indiana State University 1, Duke University 2; Email: dhews@indstate.edu
    (Required)
The abstract of your presentation. This should be a single paragraph of 1200 characters (about 200 words). You may use the '*' to notify the program officer(s) that you want to italicize a word. Example: To italicize a species name: *Bos grunniens*. You should not use any other markup nor use extended characters such as back ticks and single quotes. This means if your text is coming straight from a word processor such as Microsoft Word make sure your text has not been automatically formatted using smart quotes. This could result in a conversion error when you submit your abstract. If you have an error when saving, you might need to save and then re-edit your text. If the problem persists please use the contact link (upper top right) to send an e-mail describing your problem.
Additional Authors of this presentation. Enter each additional author on a line. Pay attention to first name, last name order. DO NOT ADD THE PRESENTER's NAME.
If you would like to moderate a session, provide your first choice for a session group (used to assist the program officer(s) with scheduling).
    (Required)
Remember you must be a current member of the Animal Behavior Society (or the Association for the Study of Animal Behavior) or an invited speaker to be able to present. If you are not a current member please contact the ABS Central Office as soon as possible.

    What is your current status?
    (Required)
Remember you must be registered for the meeting in order to present. Your abstract submission will not be considered or scheduled until you are registered. Submitting an abstract without registration does not save you a spot for the limited talk queue. See the links above for more information about registration and housing.
