ABS Conservation Committee
Conservation behavior is a sub-discipline of animal behavior that seeks to purposely use the knowledge about animal behavior to help address conservation and management of wildlife, thus integrating conservation biology and animal behavior. The Animal Behavior Society’s Conservation Committee was established in 1997 to support society members who want to apply their professional skills to solve conservation problems. - The Richard Buchholz Conservation Behavior Award was established in 2020 to recognize ABS members for their outstanding contributions to the integrative field of Conservation Behavior.
- The Early Career Grant in Conservation Behavior Research provides support for researchers working in the field of conservation behavior, particularly those at non-academic institutions who will benefit from additional funding for research.
- The Conservation Committee hosts biennial workshops on a range of topics that have included the effects of ecotourism and solar facilities on wildlife behavior; we also have hosted professional development workshops and created short videos introducing conservation behavior.
